Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Women’s Race was successfully held as part of the 10th edition of the Al Salam Cycling Championship.
The 93 km race attracted top female cyclists from the UAE and abroad, with a world-record prize purse of AED 460,000. The competition delivered an exciting contest across the Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve.
Dubai Police/Esaad team’s Lorena Wiebes emerged as the winner after a strong and tactical performance, securing the top prize of AED 100,000. Her teammate Femke Markus finished second and received AED 70,000, while Nina Kessler from Dubai Residence Cycling Club A took third place and won AED 50,000.
In the team category, Dubai Police/Esaad claimed first place, followed by Dubai Residence Cycling Club A in second and Dubai Residence Cycling Club B in third.
In the Emirati Women’s Over-40 category, Mouza Al Mansoori finished first. In the Open Women’s Over-40 category, Yulia Polevaya from Airwerks Team 1 secured the top position.
The race started at the Al Qudra Endurance Village in Saih Al Salam and passed through key landmarks before ending in the Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve. The event was broadcast worldwide on television and digital platforms.
The race was flagged off by Mohammed Al-Mousa, member of the Supreme Organising Committee and Chairman of the Technical Committee.
Omair bin Juma Al Falasi, Director General of the Private Office of the Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Supreme Organising Committee, thanked His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for his continuous support. He praised the strong participation of women and said the championship aims to encourage more athletes to join in future editions.
He also highlighted that two races in the 10th edition are dedicated to women, reflecting Dubai’s vision to support women’s sports and empower female athletes.
The Al Salam Cycling Championship is organised with strategic partners including Dubai Police, Dubai Municipality, Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Sports Council, Government of Dubai Media Office, UAE Cycling Federation, and Dubai Sports Channel.
Desert races for men and women will take place on 31 January and 1 February, with another race to be announced soon.
