In a historic milestone for space exploration, four astronauts successfully launched toward the Moon aboard NASA’s Orion spacecraft, powered by the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket. The launch took place from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, United States.
The mission, known as Artemis II, marks NASA’s first crewed lunar journey in more than five decades, reviving human spaceflight beyond low Earth orbit since the Apollo era.
The crew includes NASA astronauts Christina Koch, Victor Glover, and Reid Wiseman, along with Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen. During the mission, the team will travel around the Moon in a planned 10-day journey before returning to Earth.
Ahead of the launch, US President Donald Trump praised the mission, calling it a significant achievement and expressing confidence in its success. His remarks came just hours before the earliest possible launch window.
Despite facing multiple delays in the past due to technical challenges, Artemis II has now taken a major step forward. However, officials have indicated that future scheduling adjustments could still occur depending on mission conditions.
The Artemis II mission is a crucial step in NASA’s broader Artemis program, which aims to establish a sustainable human presence on the Moon and pave the way for future missions to Mars.
