In a significant drug bust, three individuals, including a married couple, have been formally charged in Malaysia over a staggering 510 kilograms of methamphetamine trafficking. The accused — Mohd Rizuan Ramli, Muhammad Amir Aswad Ismail, and Nur Atiqa Anis Ramadha Abdullah — appeared in the Magistrate’s Court located in Kangar.
The charges stem from an operation conducted on March 24 in Wang Kelian, where it is alleged that the trio was involved in trafficking 510,000 grams of methamphetamine. Authorities reported that the drugs were found near a TNB substation junction along Jalan Wang Kelian, close to Padang Besar.
During the court proceedings, no plea was entered, as cases of such magnitude are escalated to the High Court. The charges were acknowledged by the defendants when presented before Magistrate Nurul Natasha Rizal.
Filed under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, one of Malaysia’s most stringent drug statutes, a conviction could result in the death penalty or life imprisonment, alongside a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane.
Reflecting the gravity of the situation, the court denied bail for all three individuals. The next court date is set for July 2, awaiting the results of a chemical analysis report.
Leading the prosecution is Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Alif Farhan Hassan, while defence counsel Nur Iman Nor Azmi represents the accused. Authorities are treating this as a substantial drug trafficking case.
