The Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC) shared that over 89,000 children aged one to seven in Abu Dhabi got the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccine in 2024. This is part of their plan to keep everyone in the community safe and healthy.

The national vaccination program gives two doses of the MMR vaccine. The first dose is given when a child is 12 months old, and the second dose is given at 18 months. To make sure kids are even more protected, the ADPHC gave an extra free dose to children between one and seven years old. This is part of the National Measles Immunization Campaign. Parents are encouraged to get their children vaccinated with the extra dose, even if they’ve had the vaccine or the disease before.
The vaccine is available in 64 health centres across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra. This makes it easier for families to get the vaccine. Children in KG1, KG2, and Grade 1 in both public and private schools will also get the vaccine at school during the 2024-2025 school year.
ADPHC uses the latest technology to study health data from all over the world. This helps them stop diseases before they spread, through vaccination drives and other health programs.
Dr. Ahmed AlKhazraji, Acting Director General of ADPHC, said, "We are focused on keeping everyone in our community healthy and safe. Vaccination is an important part of our plan to protect people. Our success comes from working together with healthcare partners across the community."
Measles is a very contagious disease that can affect both children and adults. It starts in the lungs and can spread throughout the body. It can cause serious problems, even death. The MMR vaccine is the best way to protect against measles, mumps, and rubella. The vaccine helps the body fight these diseases before someone gets sick.
Symptoms of measles show up 10 to 21 days after someone gets the virus. It begins with a high fever that lasts for several days. Other signs are a runny nose, cough, red eyes, and small white spots inside the mouth. A rash then starts on the face and neck and spreads to the rest of the body.
