Special Olympics UAE has chosen the athletes who will take part in the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Turin, Italy, in 2025. The team will travel next month to compete in different winter sports. The UAE team has 30 members, including 11 athletes of determination. They will take part in six sports: snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, figure skating, alpine skiing, short-track speed skating, and snowboarding. This is the biggest team from the region, and they will compete in the highest number of sports.

Many groups are helping the UAE team for the Winter Games. Majid Al Futtaim is the main partner, while the UAEWinter Sports Federation is giving extra support. These groups are making sure the athletes have the best training and everything they need to do well in the competition.
Talal Al Hashemi, the head of Special Olympics UAE, said he is very proud of the athletes and their hard work. He said they are ready to make the UAE proud at the world event. He also thanked the groups that are helping the team, saying their support has provided excellent training places and expert advice. The athletes have trained at Ski Dubai and Snow Abu Dhabi to learn more about winter sports. They also attended a camp in Uzbekistan to improve their skills and get used to cold weather.
Hamel Al Qubaisi, from the UAE Winter Sports Federation, said it is very important to support athletes of determination. He said they should get chances to shine in all sports, including winter sports. He also said the federation wants to make sports open for everyone, giving equal training and competition chances to all.
Mohammad El Etri, from Majid Al Futtaim Entertainment, said he is happy to support the UAE team. He said that Ski Dubai and Snow Abu Dhabi helped the athletes train and become stronger. He also said that this effort is not just about sports but also about making the athletes more confident, breaking barriers, and making sports open to everyone.
Before the team leaves for Turin, they will have one last training camp at Ski Dubai in March. This final training will help them improve their skills and feel ready for the big event.
Earlier in 2024, Special Olympics UAE made a deal with Majid Al Futtaim Entertainment to work together and support UAE athletes in winter sports. This partnership will help the athletes get special training and more chances to take part in winter games in the future.
The 11 chosen athletes come from different clubs for people of determination across the UAE. They have trained hard and shown great spirit. Their participation in the Special Olympics World Winter Games 2025 is a big achievement. They are excited to give their best performance and make their country proud.
