Shilpa Shirodkar calls Mahesh Babu ‘kind soul’ amid Jatadhara promo

Actor Shilpa Shirodkar, who is making a strong comeback with the mythological horror film Jatadhara, is once again in the limelight after years away from mainstream cinema. Starring alongside Sudheer Babu and Sonakshi Sinha, Shilpa has been busy promoting the film, during which she opened up about her close bond with Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu, who is married to her sister and former Miss India, Namrata Shirodkar.

In a recent interview with host Prema, Shilpa spoke fondly of Mahesh, calling him “one of the kindest souls” she has ever met. “I’m a fan of Mahesh, not just as an actor but also as a person. He has no malice, no jealousy. He always wishes well for everyone,” she said. Mahesh Babu, known within Tollywood for both his stardom and humility, often supports films across various industries and praises them publicly, setting himself apart from many of his peers. When asked whether she had ever considered acting in a film with him, Shilpa admitted she hadn’t approached the idea yet, adding with a smile, “Let’s see how Jatadhara performs.”

Shilpa Shirodkar, once a well-known name in Hindi cinema during the 90s with films like Khuda Gawah (1992) and Hum (1991), stepped away from acting after Gaja Gamini in 2000 and focused on her family life following her marriage to Aparesh Ranjit. She later made her way back into the industry through television with shows like Ek Mutthi Aasmaan and Silsila Pyaar Ka, before taking on a film role again in Guns of Banaras (2020). With Jatadhara, she explores a new genre entirely as she returns to the big screen with a mythological horror concept.

Meanwhile, Mahesh Babu, who was last seen in the 2024 hit film Guntur Kaaram, is now working with acclaimed director SS Rajamouli on a major action-adventure film tentatively titled SSMB 29. The film features a global cast, including Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran, and has become one of the most talked-about projects in Indian cinema. Mahesh and Namrata, married for over two decades, are parents to Gautam and Sitara, both of whom have shown interest in acting and performance.
