Saudi Esports Federation President Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz underscored the significant relationship between esports and traditional sports, particularly in terms of engagement, spectatorship, and participation. He made these insightful comments during a plenary session titled "How Will Esports Create a New Global Olympic Arena" at the ongoing eighth Future Investment Initiative (FII8) conference in Riyadh.
Prince Faisal emphasized the necessity of establishing key performance indicators (KPIs) to effectively position Saudi Arabia as a global hub for esports. His vision is to develop a structured framework that will enable the kingdom to leverage its existing strengths in sports and technology to enhance the esports landscape.
During the session, he detailed several initiatives aimed at fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors, which are crucial for the growth of the esports industry in Saudi Arabia. One of the key strategies includes the establishment of a company linked to the Public Investment Fund (PIF) that spearheads investments in the sector. The Saudi Esports Federation is actively engaging with professional players through local competitions and strives to compete on an international level. This engagement is part of a broader effort to cultivate talent and enhance the country's presence in the global esports arena.
Prince Faisal also highlighted the critical need for an esports authority that would oversee the formulation of a national policy dedicated to the sector. This authority would play a vital role in regulating and promoting esports activities across the kingdom, ensuring a coherent strategy that aligns with global standards.
In his remarks, he also touched upon the burgeoning growth of the esports sector and its integration with artificial intelligence (AI). The intersection of these two fields presents a unique opportunity for innovation and development, paving the way for Saudi Arabia to become a leader in the global esports industry. By harnessing AI, the federation aims to enhance player experiences, improve competition formats, and optimize the overall management of esports events.
Prince Faisal's comprehensive vision and strategic initiatives underscore the commitment of the Saudi Esports Federation to foster a vibrant esports ecosystem that not only engages local audiences but also attracts global attention, firmly establishing Saudi Arabia as a key player in the international esports landscape.
