Ottawa is preparing for its tallest skyscraper yet as a 50-storey mixed-use high-rise overlooking Dow’s Lake has received approval. This impressive tower is set to rise at 829 Carling Avenue, conveniently situated near Preston Street, just a short walk from the Dow’s Lake O-Train Station and the upcoming Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus.
The development will feature a total of 503 residential units that will include a variety of studios, and one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments. Additionally, it will provide space for 196 vehicle parking spots and 482 bicycle racks. The ground floor will accommodate 300 square metres of commercial outlets along Preston Street to promote an engaging street atmosphere, while the primary residential and office entrance will be located on Carling Avenue.
Initially envisioned as a 60-storey building back in 2021, the project was refined to a 50-storey design to more harmoniously blend with the neighborhood's aesthetic. The new tower will stand in proximity to Ottawa’s tallest building, the 45-storey Claridge Icon, which was completed in 2022.
City planners indicate that this new high-rise will revitalize an underused site into a bustling, dense, transit-oriented hub that will boost pedestrian activity and reinforce mixed-use areas of the city.
This project marks a significant achievement for Ottawa’s skyline, merging contemporary architecture with urban convenience and accessibility to transit and healthcare services.
