Kathmandu: KP Sharma Oli was sworn in as Nepal's Prime Minister for the fourth time, following a vote of no confidence against Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' in the House of Representatives (HoR). President Ram Chandra Paudel administered the oath of office to Oli at Shital Niwas, the principal residence of Nepal's President.
The swearing-in ceremony, delayed due to internal disputes within the Nepali Congress party over ministerial appointments, saw Oli taking charge amid challenges to stabilize Nepal's political landscape. Oli, leader of the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML), secured the premiership with the support of Nepali Congress and other smaller parties, forming a coalition government.
President Paudel also administered oaths to Deputy Prime Ministers Prakash Man Singh and Bishnu Paudel, along with 19 other ministers. Arzoo Rana Deuba, wife of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, was appointed as the Foreign Minister in the cabinet.

The coalition government comprises 10 ministers from Nepali Congress, eight (excluding the PM) from CPN-UML, two from Janata Samajwadi Party, and one from Lokatantrik Samajwadi Party. The ceremony was attended by outgoing Prime Minister Prachanda, foreign diplomats, and dignitaries.
Oli's appointment as Prime Minister comes under Article 76-2 of Nepal's Constitution, following his submission of signatures from 165 HoR members supporting his candidacy. He now faces the task of securing a vote of confidence within 30 days, a requirement likely to be fulfilled given the coalition's majority in the 275-member HoR.
The political maneuvering leading to Oli's reinstatement reflects Nepal's ongoing struggle with political instability, marked by 14 governments in the past 16 years under the Republican system. The coalition agreement between Nepali Congress and CPN-UML outlines a rotational leadership until the next general elections in 2027, aiming to provide continuity amidst Nepal's turbulent political landscape.
