Karla Sofia Gascon has been in the spotlight recently, not for her work, but for the controversies surrounding her. The actress has found herself in hot water once again after an old post resurfaced on social media, sparking major reactions online. This time, people are claiming that Gascon made hurtful comments about her co-star, Selena Gomez.

The post in question was shared on the social media platform X back in 2022 and has since been deleted. In the tweet, Gascon reportedly referred to Gomez as a “rich rat” and criticized her for playing the role of a "poor" person while continuing to bother her ex-boyfriend and his wife, Hailey Bieber. The post came after a photo of Bieber and Gomez was shared, showing the two reuniting at the Annual Academy Museum Gala in October 2022.
The tweet was allegedly shared just before Gascon made an announcement that she would be starring alongside Gomez in the series Emilia Perez. This led some to believe that Gascon was aware they would be working together when she posted the comment about Gomez.
This isn't the first time Gascon has faced backlash for her past social media activity. She has been criticized for other posts related to Muslim culture, George Floyd, and more. After receiving online criticism for these posts, Gascon apologized, saying she understood the pain her words had caused. She also stated that, as someone from a marginalized community, she understood the hurt of being misunderstood, and she expressed deep regret for any pain she caused.
On January 30, Gascon spoke to People magazine, acknowledging the issues around her past posts and apologizing once again. She shared, “I know this suffering all too well and I am deeply sorry to those I have caused pain. All my life I have fought for a better world. I believe light will always triumph over darkness.”
While Gascon continues to face criticism, she has also made efforts to show she is learning from her past mistakes. However, the viral post about Selena Gomez has certainly added fuel to the ongoing online conversation about her actions.
