Italy’s unemployment rate dropped to 5.6 percent in December, reaching the lowest level since records began in 2004, according to provisional data from Istat.
The Italian News Agency (ANSA) reported that this figure is 0.1 percentage point lower than the previous record of 5.7 percent in November.
Istat noted that the total number of employed people in Italy was 24.142 million in December. This is a slight decrease of 20,000 from November but an increase of 62,000 compared to December 2024.
Meanwhile, the employment rate eased slightly to 62.5 percent, down 0.1 percentage point from the previous month.
This decline in unemployment highlights a positive trend in Italy’s labor market, despite minor fluctuations in employment levels.
