In the first half of 2024, Dubai witnessed a concerning rise in accidents involving electric scooters, bicycles, and e-bikes, resulting in four fatalities and 25 injuries. Alongside these incidents, Dubai Police took decisive action by confiscating 4,474 scooters and bicycles for violating safety regulations, while recording 7,804 violations for reckless riding behaviors.
Highlighting the severity of the situation, Major General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi, Assistant Commandant for Operations Affairs at Dubai Police, emphasized the critical need for compliance with safety measures. These include adhering to speed limits, utilizing designated lanes, wearing appropriate safety gear such as helmets, and refraining from riding during nighttime or adverse weather conditions.
Al Ghaithi underscored specific regulations, urging riders to avoid riding against traffic flow and on roads with speed limits exceeding 60 km/h. Additionally, carrying passengers on e-scooters and bicycles is strictly prohibited under current laws.

Addressing public safety concerns, Al Ghaithi encouraged community participation in reporting illegal activities and unsafe behaviors through the 'Police Eye' service available on the Dubai Police app. Alternatively, concerned individuals can utilize the non-emergency hotline by dialing 901 to report violations and ensure swift enforcement of safety regulations across Dubai's urban landscape.
