Dubai Police have intensified enforcement against young riders recklessly using electric bikes on walking and cycling tracks, following multiple reports of e-bikes speeding over 100 kmph.
In a single week of targeted operations across areas including Nad Al Sheba, authorities impounded 101 electric bikes and issued 130 fines to violators, mostly teenagers. Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Assistant Commandant for Operations Affairs at Dubai Police, emphasized that some e-bikes were illegally modified to increase speed, creating a serious hazard for pedestrians, other road users, and the riders themselves.
“E-bikes are designed for recreational use and should not be used on sports tracks,” he said, highlighting the risks posed by unsafe riding practices.
Authorities have taken legal action against the riders, and parents of underage violators were summoned to raise awareness about the dangers of leaving children unsupervised. Dubai Police urged families to educate their children on the importance of wearing safety gear, following traffic regulations, and riding only on designated tracks.
According to UAE traffic laws, electric scooters and bikes are permitted a maximum speed of 20 kmph and can only be ridden on designated routes with a valid permit from the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). Violations carry fines of AED 300 for riding on roads with a speed limit exceeding 60 kmph, AED 200 for riding without a valid RTA permit, and AED 200 for parking in non-designated zones or obstructing traffic.
The crackdown is part of Dubai Police’s ongoing efforts to ensure public safety and prevent accidents caused by reckless e-bike riding. Authorities have reminded the public that safe riding practices and adherence to traffic rules are essential to protect both riders and pedestrians.
