In a major leap toward smart and sustainable maritime operations, the Dubai Ports Authority (DPA) has launched “Port Eye”, a state-of-the-art aerial monitoring system powered by autonomous drones and artificial intelligence. The initiative is set to redefine operational safety, environmental monitoring, and infrastructure inspections across Dubai’s maritime zones.
Unlike traditional manual inspections, Port Eye’s drones are equipped with 4K thermal imaging cameras and advanced environmental sensors, allowing them to operate autonomously within a centralized smart control network. This network provides real-time visual feeds, instant data analytics, and predictive insights, dramatically reducing human involvement in high-risk environments.

Efficiency and Sustainability at the Core
Port Eye is designed to align with the UAE’s Green Agenda 2030 and Net Zero 2050 commitments. Early deployment shows inspection times have dropped from four hours to just fifty minutes, improving operational efficiency by over 60%. The system also enhances energy efficiency while minimizing environmental impact by monitoring emissions and detecting marine pollution.
The drones feature AI-driven image and video processing along with sensors capable of measuring sulfur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and other emissions in real time. Live data is visualized through a 3D interactive dashboard, linked directly to DPA’s command and control center. This enables rapid response to incidents and supports predictive maintenance for port infrastructure.
Smart Monitoring for Safer Operations
With the ability to track ship emissions and environmental changes continuously, Port Eye ensures compliance with international environmental standards. The platform’s intelligence allows for instant identification of potential risks, from structural issues to pollution threats, creating a safer and more sustainable maritime ecosystem.
By integrating AI, autonomous drones, and environmental monitoring, Dubai Ports Authority has positioned itself at the forefront of global port innovation. Port Eye represents a significant milestone in the city’s ongoing digital transformation and sets a benchmark for smart port operations worldwide.
