Dubai Municipality has finished a big development project on the Deira side of Dubai Creek. This project covered a two-kilometre stretch of the wharf and cost a total of AED112 million. The goal of the project was to make the creek’s quay stronger, safer, and more efficient for daily operations. It also aims to boost the creek's value as a commercial and tourist spot.
Dubai Creek is one of the most important water routes in the city. This development is part of a larger effort by Dubai Municipality to protect the creek’s heritage and history. It also supports the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which is focused on growing the city’s economy and trade in the future.

To help with rising trade needs and to allow more vessels to dock safely, the surface level of the quay was raised, and the strength of the retaining wall was improved. As part of the work, the height of the wall was increased to 8.3 metres. The quay was also fitted with 200 strong anchors and 500 berths where ships can dock. These changes are meant to make marine transport smoother and safer and help the creek manage more tourist and business activities.
His Excellency Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, explained that this development is a big step in building stronger infrastructure. It also supports Dubai's leaders’ vision and the long-term plans under the D33 economic agenda. He said the project helps Dubai Creek remain one of the city's key places for trade and tourism. It also shows the municipality’s commitment to making Dubai a more modern, safe, and welcoming city.
He also said the team used advanced tools and worked with flexible schedules to make sure that ship movement was not interrupted during construction. He mentioned that work has already started on the Bur Dubai side of the creek, which will cover a 2.3-kilometre area. Once finished, both sides of the creek will offer safer and more efficient passage for boats and ships.
As part of the upgrades, the creek bed was dredged, or deepened, by removing 17,500 cubic metres of material to improve water flow. To make the infrastructure stronger, 24,000 cubic metres of rock were added. The project also used 22,500 cubic metres of concrete and 1,315 pre-made concrete blocks. A 1,200-metre drainage system was installed to handle rainwater in the quay’s back area.
Altogether, more than 620,000 working hours were spent on this project. The total side area of the quay was increased to 320,000 square feet. This includes special zones for handling cargo and a new public walkway where visitors can enjoy views of the water and relax.
Even though Dubai is growing fast with new buildings and roads, Dubai Creek remains a very special place. It is not just a historical part of the city, but also an important area for business and tourism. This upgrade helps keep the creek useful and attractive for both locals and visitors.
Dubai Municipality had awarded the construction contract for this project in February 2024.
