Auqib Nabi, the fast bowler from Jammu and Kashmir, has emerged as a thrilling prospect in the lead-up to the IPL mini-auction, thanks to his stellar performances in domestic cricket. Despite not yet making his IPL debut, this 29-year-old medium pacer is poised for a breakthrough following his impressive display of skills.
Nabi caught the eye in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, claiming 15 wickets across seven games. His impressive economy rate of 7.41 highlights his ability to contain runs while taking wickets, a crucial quality in T20 matches. A standout performance against Bihar, where he achieved figures of 4 for 16, showcased his knack for maintaining precision and composure.
His performance in red-ball cricket has been equally commendable. In the current Ranji Trophy season, Nabi bagged 29 wickets in nine innings, featuring three five-wicket hauls. With a remarkable spell of 7 for 24 against Rajasthan, he was instrumental in leading Jammu and Kashmir to the knockout phase, reinforcing his status as a key player in critical moments.
Nabi's consistency has been impressive over the past two seasons. Last season in the Ranji Trophy, he concluded with 44 wickets at an exceptional average of 13.93, positioning him among the top bowlers in the tournament. This sustained excellence has garnered attention from both experts and franchises.
Former Indian cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara expressed that Nabi could be a valuable addition at the mini-auction. Pujara noted that teams would likely see him as a solid choice for depth in their bowling line-up, especially those already possessing a robust pace attack. With a base price set at ₹30 lakh, Nabi is a low-risk, high-potential investment for teams looking to enhance their bowling strength.
The upcoming mini-auction could be a pivotal moment for Nabi’s career. After years of dedication and standout domestic performances, the Jammu and Kashmir bowler is on the verge of an IPL opportunity that could catapult his professional journey to new heights.
