Sheikh Sultan bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, Advisor to the UAE President and Chairman of the Camel Racing Federation, attended the evening races of the 3rd Al Dhafra Camel Racing Festival. The event, held at Madinat Zayed’s Al Dhafra Racetrack, continues to celebrate one of the UAE’s oldest and most respected traditional sports—camel racing. The festival stands as a proud symbol of Emirati culture, heritage, and community pride.
The prestigious event is held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region. His patronage reflects the UAE’s continuous efforts to preserve and promote national heritage through sports that connect present generations with their ancestors’ traditions. The leadership’s strong support for camel racing demonstrates the UAE’s dedication to strengthening national identity through cultural continuity.
During the festival’s evening session, 17 exciting races were held under the Haqayeq category, which featured young camels showcasing their speed and endurance. The crowd witnessed spirited competition and impressive performances, as participants from across the country gathered to display their best-bred camels and racing skills. The event created an atmosphere of enthusiasm, bringing together camel owners, trainers, and spectators in a grand celebration of sport and tradition.
The 3rd Al Dhafra Camel Racing Festival includes a total of 107 races divided into three main categories — Haqayeq, Luqaya, and Eydha. Each category represents a specific age group of camels, ensuring fair competition and excitement across all stages. A total of 24 major trophies are being awarded throughout the festival, with eight trophies designated for each category. These honors encourage excellence among breeders and strengthen the spirit of fair competition in this deeply cherished Emirati sport.
Speaking at the event, Sheikh Sultan bin Hamdan Al Nahyan highlighted the importance of such festivals in preserving the UAE’s rich cultural heritage. He praised the dedication of camel owners and trainers who work tirelessly to maintain the traditional sport’s authenticity while enhancing its standards. He also expressed his appreciation for the organizational efforts that ensure each edition of the festival is more successful than the last, furthering the sport’s appeal both locally and regionally.
The Al Dhafra Camel Racing Festival is not only a sporting event but also a celebration of unity, heritage, and pride. It brings together participants from all parts of the UAE, reflecting the nation’s shared respect for its traditions. The event’s success strengthens the UAE’s global reputation as a country that balances modern progress with cultural preservation. With continued support from the nation’s leadership, camel racing remains a cornerstone of Emirati identity and an enduring symbol of the desert spirit.
