Whitney Leavitt, known from the show Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, surprised viewers with her transformed look on Season 34 of Dancing With the Stars. She gave birth to her third child just one year earlier, yet appeared energetic, fit, and confident throughout the competition. What many people did not know was that she has been dealing with hypothyroidism, a condition that makes weight loss difficult and often leaves people feeling tired and frustrated. This made her transformation more inspiring and relatable to many who face similar challenges.
Whitney explained that she first noticed something was wrong when she struggled to lose weight even after following a proper diet and exercise routine. She and her husband, Conner Leavitt, welcomed their first child in 2019, their second in 2021, and their third in 2024. With three pregnancies and a hormonal condition affecting her metabolism, she found weight loss to be a constant battle. She initially began her fitness journey with WeightWatchers, a well-known global weight loss program. She said she felt motivated and saw some progress, but her results slowed down, and she later discovered that hypothyroidism was the reason. According to medical experts, this condition can lead to slow metabolism, fatigue, and unexpected weight gain, which matched what she was experiencing.
Whitney later started using Ozempic, a medication usually prescribed for type 2 diabetes but also sometimes recommended under medical guidance for weight control. After beginning the medication, she finally saw noticeable changes. She lost 10 pounds at first and eventually lost around 20 pounds. This gave her more confidence and energy, especially as she prepared for the demanding schedule of Dancing With the Stars, where long rehearsals and high physical performance are required.
However, Whitney openly shared that the medication came with side effects. She talked about experiencing diarrhoea, nausea, and irritability, and these problems continued even as she lost weight. Due to this, she decided to stop taking Ozempic after reaching a certain point in her fitness journey. Her decision showed the importance of understanding both the benefits and challenges of any medical treatment and choosing what feels right for one’s long-term health and comfort.
Throughout this time, Whitney also had the responsibilities of raising three young children. Many viewers admired her ability to balance motherhood, personal health challenges, and a national television appearance. Her story shows that weight loss is not the same for everyone, and medical conditions such as hypothyroidism can make the process slower and more complicated. Her openness encouraged many women who also feel pressured or judged when results do not come quickly.
Whitney’s journey is meaningful because she did not pretend that everything was simple or perfect. She shared the emotional side, the health struggles, the small wins, and the uncomfortable moments. Her story reminds people that progress takes time, especially when health conditions are involved, and that it is important to seek medical guidance and set realistic expectations. Today, Whitney continues to inspire many fans not only for her appearance but also for her honesty, hard work, and strength in managing her health and her career while raising a family.
