The Bangladesh women’s cricket team’s scheduled tour of India, including three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three T20Is in December, has been postponed indefinitely. A spokesperson from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the decision to ESPNcricinfo, saying the board received a letter from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about rescheduling the series to a later date.
No official reason was provided for the postponement, but reports suggest that political tensions between India and Bangladesh played a significant role in the decision.
The series was part of the International Cricket Council (ICC)’s Future Tours Programme. It was planned to be India’s final set of matches before the 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL) season. For Bangladesh, the series was set to mark a new phase in the Women’s ODI Championship and offer valuable preparation and competitive experience between major tournaments.
The matches were originally scheduled to be held in Kolkata and Cuttack. The ODIs were intended to give both teams a chance to compete and assess their squads ahead of future international fixtures.
Earlier this year, the Indian men’s team’s white-ball tour of Bangladesh, originally set for August 2025, was also postponed. That tour was rescheduled to September 2026 after discussions between the two boards. The postponement considered international cricket commitments and the convenience of scheduling for both sides.
In a statement at the time, the BCCI said, “This decision has been reached following discussions between the two boards, taking into account the international cricketing commitments and scheduling convenience of both teams. The BCB looks forward to welcoming India in September 2026 for this eagerly anticipated series. Revised dates and fixtures for the tour will be announced in due course.”
The postponement of the Bangladesh women’s tour affects both teams’ preparation and match practice ahead of major tournaments. India was scheduled to play these matches as a lead-up to the WPL, which serves as a platform for players to gain form and assess combinations. Bangladesh, meanwhile, loses an important opportunity to play against a strong team in competitive conditions, which could affect their rankings and performance in future ICC events.
Despite the delay, both boards have expressed commitment to ensuring that the series will take place at a suitable future date. Players from both sides are expected to continue training and preparing for the revised schedule once it is officially announced.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board and the BCCI have stated that the new dates for the postponed women’s series will be confirmed later. Fans of women’s cricket are eagerly waiting for the announcement, as the matches were expected to provide exciting cricket and strengthen ties between the two countries’ cricket boards.
While the indefinite postponement is a setback, it also reflects careful consideration of international scheduling and safety concerns. Both teams now focus on other upcoming tournaments while planning for this series in the near future.
