A 41-year-old woman named Sara Jacqueline King, who worked as a lawyer in the United States, has been sent to jail for 21 months. She was found guilty of taking ₹74 crore ($8.7 million) from her clients and using the money to gamble in Las Vegas.
Sara told people she had a company called King Family Lending LLC. She said her business gave quick, high-interest loans to famous people like actors, sports stars, and other rich folks. This happened between January 2022 and January 2023.
She asked people to invest money in her business. She told them the loans were safe because they were backed by valuable things, like cars or houses. She also promised that if someone didn’t pay the loan, she would sell that valuable thing and give the money back to the investor. But this was all a lie.
No loans were ever given. Instead, Sara took all the money and used it for herself. She spent it to live a fancy life, gamble in Las Vegas, and stay at Wynn Las Vegas, a luxury hotel. Reports say she lived there for six months and played slot machines all day and night.
Court papers said she used the money to buy expensive things, enjoy fine food, and have a rich lifestyle. Her lawyer asked the judge for a light punishment of just six months. But the government lawyer, Jennifer Waier, said Sara stole a lot of money and used her position as a lawyer to trick people, so she deserved a longer jail time.
Sara even spoke about her crimes on a show called “Lady Mafia” before she was punished. The government lawyer said Sara acted boldly and tried to make her crime sound exciting.
“She was gambling with other people’s money and living like a millionaire,” said the lawyer.
