Kerala Man in UAE Wins $1 Million in Dubai Lottery, Plans to Clear Debts and Start Business

Venugopal Mullacheri, a 52-year-old Indian man living in the UAE, has won $1 million (around ₹8.3 crore) in the Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire draw. This life-changing win has come after years of hardship and struggle. Venugopal says the prize is a blessing that will help him pay off big debts, take a break with his family, and even start a new business.

Venugopal is a father of two and comes from Kerala. He works as an IT support specialist and lives in Ajman. For the past 15 years, he had been buying lottery tickets, hoping for a lucky break. That long wait ended when he bought the winning ticket on April 23 at the Dubai airport, just after visiting his family in India.

"When I heard my name, I was shocked," he said. "It felt like a heavy load had been lifted off my back. I couldn't speak or even react. I was frozen with surprise."

He became the 500th person to win the Dubai Duty Free draw. For Venugopal, this win came at a time when he needed it most. He had built a house recently, which added to his financial burden. On top of that, he suffered a huge loss after being betrayed by someone he trusted with money.

“I was in a deep hole,” he said. “But now I can say I ‘was’ in debt. This win saved me.”

Venugopal shared that the first thing he wants to do is clear his debts and take a well-deserved break. “I’ll go on a long holiday and spend time with my family,” he said. “Later, I plan to return to the UAE and maybe start a small business here. This country means a lot to me, and I don’t want to live anywhere else.”

He also hopes to bring his family to the UAE once his life is more stable.

For Venugopal, this win is not just about money — it's about getting a fresh start and leaving behind years of struggle.
