In a shocking development, star Indian cricketer Virat Kohli is said to be thinking about retiring from Test cricket. According to reports, Kohli has already told the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about his decision. The news has surprised cricket fans and former players across the world.

Sources close to the matter shared that Kohli has made up his mind and informed the board that he is ready to step away from the longest format of the game. However, the BCCI is not ready to let him go so easily. The board has asked Kohli to take more time and rethink his decision, especially with the very important five-match Test series against England coming up.

“He has already told the board that he wants to move on from Test cricket,” said a source. “The BCCI has requested him to wait and reconsider, since the England tour is just around the corner. He hasn’t responded yet.”

A senior BCCI official also spoke about the situation. While the official did not want to be named, he did confirm that talks have taken place. He said, “Yes, the board has requested Kohli to not take a final call right away. He is still very fit and full of energy. When he’s in the dressing room, it lifts the spirit of the whole team.”

If Kohli does retire from Test cricket, it would be a big blow for the Indian team, especially after Rohit Sharma's retirement. Without both Rohit and Kohli, India will go to England with a young and less experienced batting line-up. In that case, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant would be the most senior batters in the squad.

In recent times, Kohli has not been in great form in Test matches. During the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, he started well by scoring a century in the first Test held in Perth. But after that, he failed to leave much impact. His average in that series dropped to just 23.75. Over the last five years, Kohli has played 37 Tests, scored only 1990 runs, and hit three centuries. These numbers are quite low compared to his earlier performance.

However, fans were hopeful after watching him in the IPL 2025 season. Kohli looked in great touch and scored over 500 runs. Many were expecting him to carry that form into the England Test series. But now, this sudden news has left his fans heartbroken and confused.

Virat Kohli has been one of India’s greatest Test players. He has played 123 Test matches, scoring 9230 runs at an average of 46.85. His passion, energy, and leadership have inspired many young players. If he does retire, it will surely be the end of a golden era in Indian Test cricket.
