UAE Launches National MRV System to Drive Climate Leadership

Dubai, October 16, 2025 – The UAE has taken a major step toward climate leadership with the launch of its National Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) system. Revealed during GITEX GLOBAL 2025, this first-of-its-kind platform in the region integrates monitoring of greenhouse gas emissions and air pollutants, offering a unified tool for environmental oversight.

The MRV system forms a critical part of the UAE’s climate governance strategy, supporting the NetZero 2050 initiative and the National Air Quality Agenda 2031. By providing accurate, reliable data, the platform enables policymakers and businesses to track progress, design informed policies, and advance the nation’s sustainability goals.

Built over four years, the system involved extensive collaboration between federal ministries, local governments, private sector partners, and international experts. Its development journey included a thorough review of global best practices, the identification of relevant stakeholders, and the creation of a robust institutional and governance framework. Following rigorous pilot testing, the MRV system is now fully operational, offering real-time insights and streamlined reporting mechanisms.

The platform dramatically reduces administrative complexity. Emissions inventory reports, which previously took 15 months to compile, can now be completed in just three months. The workflow has been simplified from 11 steps to four automated processes, while communication channels have been consolidated from over 240 entities to seven main coordinating bodies. These improvements free thousands of work hours, allowing resources to focus on strategic sustainability efforts.

The system also provides businesses with tools to assess their carbon footprint and plan their journey toward net-zero targets. By combining transparency, accuracy, and usability, the MRV platform sets a new benchmark for environmental governance in the region.
