The Dubai International Aquatics Championship 2026 officially began on Friday at the renowned Hamdan Sports Complex, setting a new benchmark with the participation of 1,670 male and female swimmers from over 100 nationalities.
This year’s edition is being hailed as one of the largest aquatics events in the region, featuring more than 80 clubs and academies from across the UAE and around the world. Organisers are expecting a spectator turnout of over 4,000 fans during the championship, which will run until Sunday evening.
The event is organised by the UAE Aquatics Federation in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council and Hamdan Sports Complex. It is officially recognised by World Aquatics and contributes to athlete rankings for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, further enhancing its global significance.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Abdulwahid Al Jasmi, board member of the UAE Marine Sports Federation, highlighted that hosting such a prestigious competition reflects the UAE’s growing reputation as a global hub for international sporting events. He emphasised the championship’s role in nurturing young talent and promoting competitive excellence.
“We are proud to host more than 1,600 swimmers from across the globe. This championship provides a vital platform for athletes to showcase their skills, gain international exposure, and advance their sporting careers,” he said.
Al Jasmi also noted that the organising committee, along with its partners, has ensured top-tier technical standards and seamless coordination to deliver a world-class experience for participants and spectators alike.
The championship is currently witnessing intense competition across multiple categories, with both emerging and elite swimmers showcasing their abilities. The high level of participation underlines the event’s growing importance and cements its status as a key fixture on the international aquatics calendar.
