In Abu Dhabi, the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) recently issued a circular detailing the official working hours for federal government employees during the holy month of Ramadan, which corresponds to the year 1445 AH in the Islamic calendar. The circular aims to ensure clarity and consistency in work schedules across ministries and federal entities during this sacred period.
According to the circular, the designated working hours for ministries and federal entities throughout Ramadan are established from 9 am to 2:30 pm, from Monday to Thursday. This schedule reflects a slight adjustment to accommodate the observance of Ramadan while maintaining operational efficiency within government offices. Additionally, on Fridays, the customary day of communal prayer and rest for Muslims, working hours are further reduced. Employees are required to work from 9 am to 12 noon, unless the nature of their responsibilities necessitates an alternative arrangement.
FAHR has emphasized that ministries and federal entities retain the flexibility to implement their respective policies regarding flexible working arrangements during Ramadan, provided they align with the prescribed daily working hours. This flexibility acknowledges the diverse needs and responsibilities of employees while upholding the efficiency and productivity standards expected within the government sector.
Furthermore, the circular introduces provisions for remote work on Fridays, allowing employees the option to fulfill their duties from home. However, this provision comes with a stipulation: a maximum of 70 percent of an entity's workforce may work remotely, subject to established guidelines. This provision reflects a recognition of the evolving dynamics of the modern workplace and the growing importance of remote work arrangements, particularly in response to global challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
In issuing this circular, FAHR extends its heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the leadership, government, citizens, residents, and the wider Arab and Islamic communities. The authority offers prayers for continued health, prosperity, and spiritual fulfillment during this auspicious occasion of Ramadan. This message underscores the spirit of unity, compassion, and solidarity that characterizes the observance of Ramadan, not only within the UAE but also across the broader Muslim world.
Overall, the circular serves as a testament to the UAE government's commitment to fostering a conducive work environment that accommodates the religious and cultural practices of its diverse workforce. By providing clear guidelines and flexibility, the government aims to ensure the well-being and productivity of its employees while upholding the values of inclusivity and respect for diversity. As Ramadan unfolds, government offices across the UAE are poised to uphold their duties and responsibilities with diligence and dedication, contributing to the continued progress and prosperity of the nation.
