Prabhas has kicked off 2026 with a strong box office opening as his latest film The Raja Saab performed well on its first day. Directed by Maruthi, the horror comedy may have received mixed reactions from critics and audiences, but it clearly connected with Prabhas’ massive fan base.
According to early box office estimates, The Raja Saab earned ₹15.34 crore net in India by 4 PM on Friday, as reported by Sacnilk. Despite advance bookings opening late and the film not being a typical mass action entertainer, the opening numbers are impressive.
Industry trackers had expected The Raja Saab to have the weakest opening among Prabhas’ post-pandemic releases. However, the film surprised many by outperforming recent releases. It surpassed the morning collections of Dhurandhar, which had been leading the Indian box office for the past five weeks.
By 9 AM itself, The Raja Saab crossed Dhurandhar’s previous day collection of ₹4.25 crore, officially taking the top spot at the box office.
When compared to Prabhas’ earlier films, the opening is lower than Salaar (₹90 crore), Kalki 2898 AD (₹95 crore), and Adipurush (₹86 crore). Still, The Raja Saab is expected to beat the opening day collections of major recent hits like Jawan (₹64 crore), Animal (₹63 crore), Leo (₹64.80 crore), and Dhurandhar (₹30 crore).
The film’s performance over the weekend will now be crucial to determine its long-term success.
The Raja Saab marks Prabhas’ return to the family entertainer genre after more than a decade. After the Baahubali series, all his films were large-scale action projects. Fans are calling this film a comeback of “vintage Prabhas.”
The film also stars Sanjay Dutt, Malavika Mohanan, Nidhhi Agerwal, Riddhi Kumar, Boman Irani, and Zarina Wahab.
