Her Excellency Alya Al Suwaidi, Director of the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB), congratulated the graduates of the third edition of the Professional Diploma Program in Strategic Government Communication on Monday. The event was held at the American University of Sharjah (AUS), and many media experts, teachers, and professionals attended the special occasion.

This training program is a joint effort between SGMB and the American University of Sharjah. It is designed to help government media workers in Sharjah improve their communication skills. The goal is to make government messages clearer, more powerful, and better connected to Sharjah’s unique image and values in the UAE and the region.

The course lasted seven weeks and included five main lessons. These lessons taught the students how to:

  • Understand and study the audience

  • Handle crisis situations through communication

  • Create strong and creative content

  • Run digital media campaigns

  • Use new technologies, including artificial intelligence, in communication

This program stood out because it brought together both academic and real-world knowledge. Many well-known experts helped teach the course. It also gave people working in government communication a chance to connect with others in the same field across different departments in Sharjah.

HE Alya Al Suwaidi spoke about the importance of keeping the course up to date. She said SGMB is always working to improve the quality of training by inviting some of the best minds in media and communication. She explained that this third edition of the program was specially planned after studying the performance of government communication offices. The aim was to find out what skills are needed now and in the future.

She shared that the program has already helped many government workers improve their skills. It has also helped bring new ideas and smart ways to deal with challenges in the media. She added, “This program is not just about learning. It’s an investment in our people. It gives them the tools to face any challenge and speak to the public in a professional way.”

At the end of the course, the students had to complete a final group project. They presented their ideas to a panel of judges from the American University of Sharjah. The panel included Professor Dr. Sohail Dahdal, Professor Dr. Mohammad Ayish, and Dr. Dalia Mahmoud. The students showed detailed communication plans that included research, planning, and how they would carry out and check their strategies.

The Professional Diploma Program in Strategic Government Communication gives both classroom learning and hands-on practice. It helps students learn from the latest research as well as real examples from local and international experiences.

Since the program began, its main goal has been to create a strong and shared understanding of how important communication is in government work. It also aims to help government media workers grow with the fast-changing digital world.

Many of the participants said the program helped them understand the true value of good communication in government. They promised to use what they learned in their daily work to help make the government communication system in Sharjah even better.
