The 2025 London Marathon has shattered previous records in charitable fundraising history. Organizers reported that this year’s event generated an astonishing £87.3 million, surpassing the prior record of £73.5 million set in 2024. This remarkable leap of £13.8 million, or nearly 19%, highlights the event's lasting legacy.

Since its inception in 1981, the London Marathon has embodied generosity and community spirit. With this milestone, the overall amount raised by this iconic event has reached a staggering £1.4 billion. Thousands of participants, running for countless causes, have contributed to this inspiring legacy. From health research to social initiatives and environmental efforts, the funds raised through the marathon continue to impact lives across the UK and beyond.

This year’s marathon not only set fundraising records but also became the largest marathon globally. A total of 56,640 runners crossed the finish line, establishing a new world record for the most finishers in a single marathon. Additionally, Ethiopian Tigst Assefa set a new women’s-only world record, finishing the race in 2 hours, 15 minutes, and 50 seconds, making this year one for the books.

Excitement for the London Marathon continues to build annually, with organizers announcing that over 1,133,813 people entered the public ballot for the 2026 event—setting a new world record for entries. This remarkable interest underscores the marathon’s appeal as both a sporting challenge and a platform for meaningful change. The 2026 race is scheduled for Sunday, 26 April, with high expectations for another memorable event.

Enthuse, the official fundraising partner for the marathon, also celebrated a record year, with participants raising over £35.8 million through its platform. The average donation was £46.75, with fundraising pages averaging £2,809 collected. This reflects the generosity of donors and the commitment of runners dedicated to their chosen causes.

Chester Mojay-Sinclare, CEO and founder of Enthuse, called the event an “incredible force for good.” He noted that as the marathon continues to grow, more charities benefit from the increased fundraising potential, enabling their ongoing vital work.

Hugh Brasher, CEO of London Marathon Events, commended all participants and supporters for their dedication. “Thousands of charities benefit directly from the phenomenal contributions made by those who completed 26.2 miles on Sunday, 27 April,” he said. “This impressive sum will enable these organizations to create positive impacts year-round.”

He highlighted that the London Marathon is more than just a race; it is a celebration of community, resilience, and compassion. Each runner's personal story contributes to the marathon’s rich tradition of inspiring generosity.

The official charity partner for the 2025 London Marathon, Pancreatic Cancer UK, raised an impressive £2.8 million through its participants. Diana Jupp, the organization's CEO, expressed immense pride in all the runners representing them. “We are incredibly proud of every one of our runners, who took on this challenging journey and collectively raised an inspiring £2.8 million,” she said.

She emphasized that the funds are already making an impact, supporting crucial research into early detection and treatment for pancreatic cancer. This achievement further confirms the London Marathon's role in advancing crucial work across multiple sectors.

More than a mere sporting event, the London Marathon brings together diverse individuals—from elite athletes to newcomers—united by a single aim: to effect change. The 2025 edition highlighted the remarkable power of community spirit, generosity, and human resilience.

As the marathon's influence expands each year, it consistently sets new benchmarks in both participation and fundraising. With over a million individuals vying for a spot in next year's race, the future of this iconic event shines bright.
