In an impressive NHL debut, Jack Quinn propelled the Buffalo Sabres to a 4-2 triumph over the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday night. Quinn scored a pivotal power-play goal early in the third period and added two assists, marking a standout three-point game in front of an energized crowd. Goalie Colten Ellis made a notable 27 saves, solidifying the win and boosting the Sabres' record after a sluggish season start.
Throughout the match, Buffalo's offensive efforts were relentless. Tyson Kozak netted his second consecutive goal, while Josh Doan scored for the third game in a row. Jason Zucker also contributed to the scoreline before departing due to an upper body injury. Both Conor Timmins and Ryan McLeod notched two assists, showcasing the Sabres' cooperative play.
The Red Wings drew first blood, with J.T. Compher finding the net just three minutes into the second period, assisted by captain Dylan Larkin, who extended his remarkable point streak to seven games. Emmitt Finnie scored his third goal in two games next, adding to Detroit’s momentum.
Buffalo quickly neutralized the threat, as Zucker leveled the game 1-1 at 11:37 of the second period, linking up beautifully with Quinn. Kozak then placed the Sabres ahead 2-1 with another Quinn assist. However, Finnie promptly responded for Detroit, cashing in on a backhand from Larkin to restore parity.
The turning point arrived in the third period when Quinn, from above the faceoff circles, scored a power-play goal at 4:15, edging the Sabres ahead at 3-2. Doan subsequently sealed the game with a shot from the left circle, extending the lead to 4-2.
This victory marked a turning point for Buffalo, claiming three wins out of their last four games after starting the season 0-3-0. For Detroit, this loss snapped their five-game winning streak, marking their first setback since their season opener against the Montreal Canadiens on October 9.
Quinn's contribution signaled his growing significance in Buffalo’s offensive lineup. His scoring and playmaking inspired the team, while Ellis’ composed goaltending offered stability. Despite impressive performances from Larkin and Finnie, Detroit couldn’t compete with Buffalo's multi-faceted attack.
The game offered a thrilling display of competitive hockey, with both teams exchanging goals and generating scoring opportunities. With depth in scoring led by Quinn and support from teammates like Doan, Zucker, and Kozak, Buffalo managed to overcome a tenacious Red Wings squad.
As the Sabres gear up for their next match, Detroit is eager to bounce back and sustain their commendable start to the season, even after this setback.
