The ceasefire deal is in trouble. On Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that if Hamas does not release hostages by Saturday noon, Israel will start fighting again. He said that if the hostages are not returned, Israel will fight until Hamas is stopped.
US President Donald Trump also said there would be big problems if Hamas does not release all the hostages by Saturday. The ceasefire deal was made by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States after many months of work with former US President Joe Biden. The first part of the ceasefire started on January 19. The next part of the deal was supposed to begin 16 days later, but the talks have not started yet.
So far, five exchanges of hostages and prisoners have happened. Hamas released 16 Israeli hostages, and Israel freed hundreds of Palestinian prisoners. The next exchange was planned for Saturday, but Hamas stopped it because Israel did not let enough aid into Gaza.
Since then, things have become worse. A Hamas source said things are getting harder. They believe Israel is not keeping its promises and wants to stop the ceasefire. The source said Israel’s actions show they want to break the deal and start fighting again.
In the next few days, the future of the ceasefire will be decided. People are waiting to see if the talks will start and if fighting will stop or continue.
