World No.1 and newly crowned Indian Wells champion Aryna Sabalenka fought hard to secure a 7-6(5) 6-4 victory over American Ann Li, reaching the third round of the Miami Open. Persistent rain caused scheduling changes, moving Sabalenka to a secondary court.
"I was there, I was fighting no matter what, even though my game probably wasn't the best," Sabalenka said. "She played incredible tennis, was super aggressive, and served incredibly."
On the men’s side, top seed Carlos Alcaraz maintained his title charge with a composed 6-4 6-4 win over Brazilian teenager Joao Fonseca.
World No.2 Elena Rybakina continued her strong form, defeating her Kazakh compatriot Yulia Putintseva 6-3 6-3.
Sixth seed Amanda Anisimova overcame a second-set wobble after a rain delay, beating Ajla Tomljanovic 6-1 5-7 6-4.
Other notable wins include fourth seed Coco Gauff and seventh seed Jasmine Paolini, who both came from a set down to defeat Elisabetta Cocciareto and Taylor Townsend, respectively, and advance to the next round.
The Miami Open continues with top players battling to reach the later stages amid unpredictable weather conditions.
