The deal comes after Japan Airlines started flying daily between Tokyo Haneda Airport and Hamad International Airport in Doha. The two airlines are already in the oneworld alliance, but now they want to work even closer together.
The deal was signed by Mark Drusch, CEO of Qatar Airways Cargo, and Yuichiro Kito, Senior Vice President of Japan Airlines. Qatar Airways' CEO, Eng. Badr Mohammed Al Meer, was also there.
Mark Drusch said this deal shows their strong partnership. By connecting their airports in Doha and Tokyo, they will be able to offer more flights to places in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, as well as Japan.
Yuichiro Kito said this deal would help Japan Airlines. They will use Japan Airlines' flights and Qatar Airways' larger network to send goods to more places.
Next year, Qatar Airways Cargo will start flying goods between Doha and Tokyo Narita Airport. This will make their partnership stronger and offer customers more destinations.
The new deal will also help increase trade between the two countries. Last year, the airlines moved over 4,000 tonnes of cargo in Japan, and they expect this number to grow.
Japan Airlines (JAL) has 227 planes and flies to 384 airports in 66 countries. Qatar Airways Cargo has 70 special cargo destinations and more than 170 destinations on regular flights. Qatar Airways also has 28 Boeing 777 freighters and 230 other cargo planes.
