In a major step toward global sustainability, Doha, Qatar, becomes the new headquarters for the Green Economy Partnership (GEP), reinforcing its commitment to fostering international collaborations in line with the country’s comprehensive sustainability vision.
Under Sheikh Mansour Bin Jabor Bin Jassim Al Thani's leadership, GEP aims to enhance its influence on global climate initiatives, emphasizing collaboration with governments and implementing CO2 removal projects under Article a6 of the Paris Agreement.
"The Green Economy Partnership was established to create global collaborations that exceed nominal transactional value. We actively work with governments, advising and driving ARR projects reducing NetZero global climate impact. Our mission also focuses on bolstering social and economic well-being. The alignment with Qatar aims to create blueprints for implementing a robust framework for the hard-to-abate sector, utilizing Internationally Transferable Mitigation Outcomes (ITMOs) in line with countries’ Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)," stated Sheikh Mansour.
GEP's new headquarters in Doha signifies a commitment to operationalizing Net Zero strategies in the private sector. GEP's global stature in establishing a carbon elimination standard for removals aligns with the Paris Agreement's Article 6 framework.
With the planet's future at stake, GEP urges global corporations and governments to join in decisive action against climate change by reducing carbon levels worldwide.
"Qatar’s rapid sustainability progress is commendable, and GEP’s presence in Doha attests to the country’s dedication to achieving its sustainability plans. The international office in Qatar will serve as a hub for collaborative efforts, addressing pressing challenges," said Arthur Chirkinian, CEO of Green Economy Partnership.
GEP supports the Paris Agreement, advocating for comprehensive strategies beyond offsets. Following the Oxford Principles for Net Zero Aligned Carbon Offsetting, GEP advises companies to include Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) in their net-zero strategies.
"We identify carbon removal suppliers, providing certification, ensuring they meet our rigorous standards," said Chirkinian. "Our innovative approach empowers businesses, including hard-to-abate industries, and individuals to take meaningful, measurable action against climate change for a sustainable, resilient future.
