The plane, a Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, had six people on board. Four of them were crew members, and the other two were a child patient and the child's escort. The plane had taken off from Northeast Philadelphia Airport and was headed to Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri.
The crash happened in a busy neighborhood in northeast Philadelphia. People shared videos online showing the crash. A dashcam on a car and a doorbell camera on a house both caught the moment when the plane fell. Officials haven’t said yet how many people on the ground may have been hurt or killed. The crash happened near Roosevelt Mall, where houses and cars caught on fire.
Mayor Cherelle Parker of Philadelphia spoke at the scene and said that many houses and cars were burning. The weather was cold and rainy, making it harder to see. Officials don’t know yet what caused the crash.
Philadelphia’s Office of Emergency Management called this a "major event" and told people to avoid the area. Emergency workers quickly arrived at Roosevelt Mall, a busy shopping area with stores and restaurants.
President Donald Trump shared his sadness on social media. He said he was "so sad to see the plane go down" and that "more innocent lives lost" were painful. He also thanked first responders for their quick action.
This plane crash in Philadelphia follows another deadly accident this week. A plane and a helicopter collided over Washington, D.C., killing everyone on board. This has been a tragic week for air travel in the U.S.
