Many people suffer from muscle cramps, eye twitching, and sudden tiredness without knowing the real reason behind it. According to nutrition experts, these small problems may be signs that the body is not getting enough magnesium. Magnesium is an important mineral that supports many functions in the body, yet most people do not meet the daily requirement.

Senior nutritionist Mukta Agarwal from INLIFE Healthcare shared that magnesium plays a major role in keeping our muscles, nerves, and energy levels working properly. It also helps with sleep, stress control, and mood balance. Even though the body needs only a small amount of magnesium, a deficiency can lead to noticeable discomfort.

Mukta explains that many people today have low magnesium levels because of poor eating habits. Highly processed foods, fast food, and refined items do not provide enough minerals. As a result, the body begins to show signs that something is missing.

One of the most common signals is frequent muscle cramps. People often wake up and stretch only to feel a sudden cramp in their calf or foot. Another sign is eye twitching. Instead of believing old superstitions, experts say this could simply be the body asking for more magnesium.

Other signs may include mood swings, low energy, and trouble sleeping. Since magnesium helps the body relax and supports the nervous system, low levels can make a person feel restless or easily tired.

According to Mukta, adults need about 300 to 400 mg of magnesium per day. The body cannot make this mineral on its own, so the only source is food. She suggests adding natural, magnesium-rich foods to daily meals. These include leafy vegetables like spinach, nuts such as almonds, seeds, legumes, and whole grains. Reducing the intake of processed snacks can also help maintain healthy magnesium levels.

Magnesium may not be as talked about as protein or carbohydrates, but it is equally necessary for good health. When the body sends small warning signs, it is important to pay attention. Simple changes in diet can restore balance and prevent long-term problems.
