The highly anticipated film Fauzi, directed by Hanu Raghavapudi and starring Prabhas alongside Imanvi, has been confirmed to release in two parts. The announcement comes amid a growing sense of “sequel fatigue” in the film industry, where many recent big-budget films have promised sequels that have either been delayed or shelved. Hanu Raghavapudi, however, says there is a strong narrative reason for splitting the film.
The first installment will focus on one dimension of Prabhas’s character, while the second will serve as a prequel exploring a different narrative layer. The director revealed that the second part will delve into India’s colonial past, drawing inspiration from real historical events and personal experiences. “We’re portraying one world of Prabhas in this movie, and the second instalment will explore another dimension. There’s abundant material from our colonial past — stories that ended tragically but could have been fairy tales in another reality. I’ve also woven in a few real-life experiences that inspired me personally,” Hanu said.
This film marks Prabhas’s first collaboration with Hanu Raghavapudi, who previously directed the critically acclaimed Sita Ramam. Fauzi is described as a fictionalized retelling of historical events. The first look of Prabhas from the film was unveiled on his birthday, October 23, featuring the tagline: A battalion who fights alone. The film is produced by Mythri Movie Makers and is scheduled for a 2026 release in all South Indian languages and Hindi.
The announcement of Fauzi releasing in two parts comes at a time when several high-profile films have promised sequels but have yet to materialize. Some of these include Prashanth Neel’s Salaar, Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD, Koratala Siva’s Devara, Prasanth Varma’s HanuMan, Karthik Gattamneni’s Mirai, Jyothi Krishna’s Hari Hara Veera Mallu, and Gowtam Tinnanuri’s Kingdom.
Industry observers note that while sequels are often seen as a marketing strategy to capitalize on existing success, Hanu Raghavapudi’s approach emphasizes narrative depth. He aims to give audiences a cinematic experience where the second part does not simply continue the story, but presents a new dimension, exploring untold historical tales and providing a fresh perspective on Prabhas’s character.
Fauzi is expected to combine large-scale action sequences, historical intrigue, and emotional storytelling, potentially setting a benchmark for how sequels can be handled thoughtfully in Indian cinema. With Prabhas at the helm and a promising storyline drawing from India’s past, the film is generating substantial anticipation among audiences across all South Indian languages and Hindi-speaking regions.
