London – Marissa Laimou, a 28-year-old Greek heiress and cancer survivor, tragically passed away in London on September 11, her mother revealed. The young heiress, part of the prominent Laimos shipping family, reportedly died from complications after an insect bite.
According to her mother, Bessy Laimou, Marissa had visited hospitals multiple times complaining of dizziness, fever, and infections. However, she was repeatedly sent home with antibiotics and simple medications. “She was bitten by an insect, she was itchy, she went to the doctor, she took antibiotics, she ate, she slept, and she never woke up. My daughter was saved from cancer. My little child,” her mother said in grief.

Marissa reportedly first saw a home doctor who gave her paracetamol. She then consulted an oncologist and was referred to another hospital, where nurses examined her and sent her home. Medical staff reportedly said hospital admission was unnecessary.
The hospital has now launched an internal investigation, and a post-mortem examination is expected in the coming days.
Marissa’s family described her as a kind, educated, and cultured young woman who loved art and theatre. Her great-aunt Chrysanthi expressed condolences: “The entire family is shocked by the sudden death of the daughter of Diamantis and Bessie Laimou. She was a very kind girl, quiet, educated, cultured, modest and simple. Warm condolences to the family! Strength and courage!”
In addition to her family legacy, Marissa was active in the fashion and theatre world. She worked with designers like Sonia Rykiel and John Galliano and founded Rainbow Wave, helping bring international brands to UK retailers. She was also involved in London theatre productions.
Her sudden death has left friends, family, and the wider community in mourning, highlighting concerns over delayed medical care.
