A 29-year-old man from Kerala, Muhammed Rinash Arangilottu, was executed in the UAE after being convicted of murder. Just a day before his execution, he made a heartbreaking phone call to his mother, pleading for his life.
His Final Call to Mother
Rinash, who was in Al Ain Manasir prison, called his mother, Laila, and wept over the phone. He begged her to save him, but despite her assurances, there was nothing she could do.
Laila traveled to the UAE for his burial, hoping until the last moment that she could bring her son back home. Unfortunately, her efforts went in vain. His final rites were performed in the UAE in the presence of his family, including his three brothers.

Crime and Conviction
Rinash was sentenced to death on February 8, 2022, for the murder of Abdullah Ziyad Rashid Al Mansoori, a disabled Emirati citizen. The crime happened in 2023 after a dispute between the two men. Reports say that Al Mansoori confronted Rinash over a woman from Hyderabad, who was Rinash’s colleague. She was also Al Mansoori’s wife. The argument quickly escalated, leading to a violent altercation in which Al Mansoori was stabbed to death.
Following the crime, Rinash was arrested and sent to Al Ain Manasir prison. His case moved very quickly, and within a year, the UAE court issued its verdict and execution order.
Family’s Efforts to Save Him
Rinash’s family tried everything they could to save him. They even reached out to the victim’s family to seek forgiveness, hoping to stop the execution, but their plea was rejected. They also sought help from political leaders, including Rahul Gandhi.
Laila visited her son twice in Dubai, but they faced difficulties in handling the legal process. Only Emirati lawyers could represent him, and their fees were too expensive for the family to afford. Each session with a lawyer cost several lakhs of rupees, making it impossible for them to fight the case properly.
Another Keralite Executed
In a similar case, another man from Kerala, Muraleedharan P V, aged 43, was also executed in the UAE. He too called his family before his execution. His family immediately tried to contact the Indian Embassy, but they received no information, leaving them in a state of shock and uncertainty.
Muraleedharan was sentenced to death in 2009 for killing a fellow Malayali from Malappuram and burying the body in the desert. He had been in jail since then. Before his arrest, Muraleedharan had moved to the UAE in 2006 to play football. His father, Keshavan, was already working there as a driver.
His family tried to seek mercy from the victim’s relatives, but they did not agree. His father visited him several times in jail, but his mother, Janaki V V, never got the chance to meet him. She told reporters that before his imprisonment, he used to call home twice a week.
A Painful End for Their Families
Both families made desperate efforts to save their loved ones, but they could not stop the executions. Their stories highlight the struggles of many Indians working in foreign countries, where legal battles are often difficult and expensive to fight.
Their families are now left with only memories, grieving for their sons who never returned home.
