The period drama Kantara Chapter 1, starring Rishab Shetty, experienced a slight earnings drop on Thursday as the Diwali celebrations wrapped up. However, it continues to captivate audiences both at home and abroad.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film recorded earnings of ₹9.85 crore on Day 21, a 16.17% reduction from the prior day. The Kannada film has performed admirably outside of Karnataka, attracting significant revenue from the Hindi belt, Telugu states, Tamil Nadu, and foreign markets.
The Hindi version garnered ₹4.25 crore on October 22, marginally surpassing the Kannada version’s ₹4.1 crore. With these compelling figures, Kantara Chapter 1 approaches the ₹560 crore net domestic milestone, totaling ₹556.75 crore in 21 days. Worldwide, the gross has eclipsed ₹760.5 crore, including ₹108.5 crore from international collections.
Produced by Hombale Films, the film was initially unveiled in Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Tamil. In response to the film's strong international word-of-mouth success, filmmakers have confirmed that an English-dubbed version will roll out worldwide on October 31.
This English adaptation will have a runtime of 2 hours and 14 minutes, shorter than the original's 2 hours and 49 minutes. This strategic move is anticipated to further boost box office figures.
While the movie was initially designated for an Amazon Prime Video release around October 30, approximately four weeks after its theatrical premiere, its continued box office success may lead to a delay in the streaming launch as creators seek to optimize theatrical profits.
Set against the backdrop of pre-colonial Karnataka during the Kadamba reign in Banavasi, Kantara Chapter 1 explores the conflict between tribal inhabitants and a despotic king. Notable cast members include Rishab Shetty, Sapthami Gowda, Gulshan Devaiah, Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, P D Satish Chandra, and Prakash Thuminad.
