In a significant move, Indonesia has announced a decrease in the cost associated with the Haj pilgrimage for 2026, reducing the fee by approximately Rp2 million (around RM465) for each pilgrim. This decision comes in light of increasing aviation fuel prices, showcasing the government's commitment to alleviating the financial burden on lower-income families.
President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that this initiative illustrates the government’s dedication to supporting its citizens. The new total cost for the Haj pilgrimage has been adjusted to roughly Rp87.4 million per pilgrim, post discussions with the national parliament.
Further aiding prospective pilgrims, the government has also made strides in reducing the waiting period for Haj applicants. The maximum wait, which once peaked at 48 years, has now been cut down to approximately 26 years starting in 2026, with plans to shorten it even more.
Additionally, Indonesia is seeking to enhance logistical measures, including the establishment of a dedicated Haj terminal in Saudi Arabia and collaborating on aviation routes to improve flight operations. Officials are confident that these enhancements will not only minimize travel expenses but also ensure a more efficient and enjoyable experience for pilgrims moving forward.
