Val Kilmer, the famous Hollywood actor known for his roles in Top Gun and Batman Forever, has died at the age of 65. The New York Times was the first to report the sad news.
A Hollywood Legend
Val became famous for playing Tom "Iceman" Kazansky, a talented and competitive pilot, in the 1986 hit movie Top Gun, where he starred alongside Tom Cruise. His daughter, Mercedes Kilmer, told The New York Times that he passed away in Los Angeles due to pneumonia.

Battle with Cancer
In 2014, Val was diagnosed with throat cancer. He later recovered, but the illness affected his ability to speak. In 2021, a documentary about his life, Val, was shown at the Cannes Film Festival. The film revealed that he needed a breathing tube to help him live.
His Personal Life
Val was once married to actress Joanne Whalley, whom he met while working on the 1988 fantasy movie Willow. However, their marriage ended in divorce. He is survived by their two children, Mercedes and Jack. For many years, Val lived on a ranch near Santa Fe.
A Career Full of Memorable Roles
Val Kilmer had many unforgettable roles in Hollywood. He played Batman in Batman Forever (1995), played the role of musician Jim Morrison in The Doors, and starred in hit movies like Real Genius, Tombstone, Heat, and The Saint. In 2021, he returned to his role as Iceman in Top Gun: Maverick, though he could no longer speak due to his illness.
He took over the role of Batman from Michael Keaton but received mixed reviews. Later, George Clooney replaced him in Batman & Robin.
His Early Life and Achievements
Val Kilmer was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Chatsworth. He attended Hollywood Professional School and later studied at the famous Juilliard School. He first appeared on stage in The Slab Boys, performing alongside Sean Penn and Kevin Bacon. His first TV role was in the after-school special One Too Many, where he acted with Michelle Pfeiffer.
In 2012, Val was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word for an audio production of Zorro. He also wrote a book called I'm Your Huckleberry, named after his famous line from Tombstone. His book was published in 2020.
