Abe told how Meryl was told to leave her home because of the fire. But when she tried to drive out, she saw a large tree had fallen and blocked her driveway. Meryl didn’t give up. She borrowed wire cutters from her neighbor and cut a hole in the fence big enough for her car to go through. Then, she drove through the neighbor’s yard to get away from the fire.
The fires caused a lot of damage in the Los Angeles area. The fire started in Pacific Palisades and spread to places like Malibu and Santa Monica. The Eaton Fire, a major one, affected the Altadena-Pasadena area too.
Many other famous people lost their homes in the fire, including Anna Faris, Anthony Hopkins, Mel Gibson, Jeff Bridges, Mandy Moore, Paris Hilton, and Jamie Lee Curtis.
Meryl’s quick thinking helped her escape. This shows how people come up with ways to stay safe when things get really bad. Firefighters are working hard to stop the fires, but there’s still a lot more to be done.
