His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence of the UAE, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, has announced a new name for the College of Nursing and Midwifery at the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU). The college will now be called the Hind Bint Maktoum College of Nursing and Midwifery, honoring Her Highness Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, the wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai.

This renaming recognizes Sheikha Hind's remarkable contributions to education, healthcare, and humanitarian efforts. Sheikh Hamdan praised Sheikha Hind's dedication, saying that her name has become a symbol of noble values and generosity. Her humanitarian initiatives have brought positive changes and earned global respect for the impact they have made on people’s lives. Sheikh Hamdan also noted that Sheikha Hind’s compassion and care reflect the true spirit of the medical and nursing professions.
The Hind Bint Maktoum College of Nursing and Midwifery will aim to inspire more Emiratis to take up careers in nursing and excel in this important field. Sheikh Hamdan said the college would be a beacon of excellence, focusing on scientific innovation and developing highly skilled professionals. It will contribute to Dubai’s goal of becoming a global leader in healthcare services by offering top-quality diagnostic, treatment, and care solutions that meet the highest international standards.
This initiative is part of the ‘Thank You Sheikha Hind’ campaign launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The campaign honors Sheikha Hind’s lifelong dedication to improving the community and supporting family well-being.
Nursing is a profession built on compassion and generosity, which are vital in delivering quality healthcare and saving lives. Through the Hind Bint Maktoum College of Nursing and Midwifery, MBRU is committed to strengthening the UAE’s healthcare sector by preparing the next generation of skilled Emirati nurses and healthcare leaders.
The college is also dedicated to innovation in nursing education, ensuring students receive world-class training. Its goal is to help Dubai maintain its position as a global hub for health and medical education. This includes empowering the healthcare sector with talented local professionals who will help build a strong and integrated healthcare system.
The College of Nursing and Midwifery at MBRU was established in collaboration with Queen’s University Belfast in the UK. Currently, it offers master’s degree programs in Paediatric Nursing and Cardiovascular Nursing. Plans are underway to introduce additional programs in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care. These programs are accredited by the UAE Commission for Academic Accreditation.
Students at the college have the opportunity to complete hands-on clinical training in hospitals in Northern Ireland. This allows them to enhance their skills while following the best global practices and standards in healthcare.
By renaming the college and expanding its programs, Dubai is reinforcing its commitment to excellence in healthcare education and honoring the incredible contributions of Her Highness Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum.
