The America’s Cup trophy arrived in Barcelona on October 6, just days before the much-anticipated match race finals, which kick off on October 12. This transfer marks a significant milestone in sailing history, as fans from around the world gather in the coastal city to witness this prestigious event.
Emirates, as the Global Partner and Official Airline of the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup, proudly transported the trophy from Auckland to Barcelona via Dubai, rolling out the red carpet for this iconic piece of sailing history. Boutros Boutros, Executive Vice President of Corporate Communications, Marketing, and Brand at Emirates, expressed the airline’s excitement about returning to the water for Emirates Team New Zealand’s defense of the Cup. He stated, “We’re thrilled to be back on the water for Emirates Team New Zealand’s defence of the America’s Cup, and we’re also proud to again be the Global Partner and Official Airline of the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup. This event is sailing’s pinnacle contest, pushing the boundaries of innovation, technology, and talent, and Emirates will be at the heart of all the action in Barcelona.”

In addition to its role as the Official Airline, Emirates will showcase its branding prominently across Race Villages, on the sails and hull of the Emirates Team New Zealand’s AC75 yacht ‘Taihoro,’ and during the official stage and award ceremony areas. The airline plans to engage with fans through “fly better” moments, where its cabin crew will distribute bespoke luggage tags, merchandise, and other exciting gifts to racegoers.
Emirates has a long-standing history in sailing, beginning its sponsorship journey in 2004 as the naming sponsor of Emirates Team New Zealand. Over the years, this partnership has led to numerous victories, including memorable wins in the 35th America’s Cup and a successful defense of the title in Auckland during the 36th America’s Cup event. Last year, Emirates renewed its commitment to the reigning champions, retaining its title as Lead Sponsor of Emirates Team New Zealand.
Barcelona is poised to be the ideal setting for sailing's most significant races, and Emirates offers 14 weekly flights to the city, including seven flights from Dubai to Mexico City that connect through Barcelona. The airline also provides 14 weekly flights to Madrid using its iconic A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft.
As the excitement builds for the upcoming finals, Emirates looks forward to connecting with both long-time sailing fans and new audiences who are passionately cheering for their teams in pursuit of the coveted America’s Cup.
