Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, has responded to Elon Musk’s criticism of the $500 billion project called Stargate. Musk raised concerns about the project’s funding, saying it might not have enough money to move forward. He pointed out that SoftBank, one of the backers, had only raised less than $10 billion out of the $100 billion needed to start the project.

In reply, Altman said Musk’s claims were wrong and asked him to focus on what’s best for the country. He suggested that Musk should think about the U.S. first, rather than focusing on his own businesses.
Stargate is a big project introduced by former President Donald Trump. The goal is to make the U.S. a leader in technology, create 100,000 jobs, and spend a lot of money on advanced technology. The plan is to start with $100 billion, and eventually reach $500 billion in four years. But it’s still not clear how all the money will be raised.
The companies involved in the project, including OpenAI, SoftBank, Oracle, and the MGX fund from Abu Dhabi, are contributing some of their own money. They also plan to bring in more investors and maybe take out loans to meet the $100 billion needed.
Musk, who helped start OpenAI but left the company in 2018 because of disagreements with Altman, has often criticized OpenAI. He believes the company is focused on making money instead of creating helpful technology for everyone.
Musk’s latest comments about Stargate add to the tension between him and Altman. This could also affect Musk’s new role as co-chair of the Department of Government Efficiency. Stargate is a key part of Trump’s economic plans, and the disagreement could complicate things for Musk.
