In a recent stream event named "12 Days of OpenAI", CEO Sam Altman announced a new system named o3 and o3-mini. It's an upgrade from the previous o1 system. OpenAI chose to skip the "o2" label to prevent mix-ups with a UK-based telecom company O2. The o3 system isn't open to everyone at the moment but it's undergoing tests by safety professionals. The o3 system functions uniquely. It verifies the accuracy of a piece of information before giving a response.

The answers it gives are more reliable, particularly for hard queries relating to math, science, and programming. Plus, it can provide an explanation of its process, adding to people's comprehension. Users can select the time the system spends on a query, choosing between low, medium, and top levels.
The top level consumes more time but supplies in-depth responses. However, the top level comes at a high cost, with each task adding up to thousands of dollars. The o3 system is already outperforming the o1 system. In evaluations, o3 scored 23 more points in programming exams and had a 96.7% success rate in math tests.
It even beat humans in some assessments. OpenAI has incorporated new safety measures into the o3 system to avert errors or complications. While the o1 system had a few glitches, OpenAI is confident these new features will enhance o3's performance.
The o3 system is still under development, and its outcomes may alter in the future, according to OpenAI. Researchers eager to test the new system can sign up on OpenAI’s waitlist. The introduction of this new o3 system is a significant leap towards more robust, secure, and trustworthy technology.
