Dubai’s iconic Metro network is gearing up for its next major expansion as the Blue Line project continues to advance steadily. His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of RTA, recently chaired the Dubai Metro Blue Line Forum at the Precast Concrete Production and Storage Factory in International City. The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including the heads of MAPA, Limak, CRRC Hong Kong, and RTA CEOs, to review construction progress and align on project milestones.
Robust Workforce and Project Progress
Currently, over 3,000 workers, supervised by 500 engineers and specialists, are engaged across 12 project locations. The consortium has already logged more than 4.6 million working hours, achieving an overall completion rate of 12%. Project officials aim to increase progress to 30% by the end of 2026, with the full line expected to open as planned on September 9, 2029.
State-of-the-Art Concrete Facilities
The Dubai Metro Blue Line is pioneering in its use of dedicated concrete facilities, including two ready-mix batching plants and two precast concrete storage yards. The Al Ruwayyah 3 plant produces 200 cubic metres of ready-mix concrete per day, while its viaduct precast yard delivers 10–12 segments daily. In International City, the batching plant produces 120 cubic metres of ready-mix concrete, and the tunnel rings factory manufactures 12 rings per day. This integrated approach enhances quality control, shortens timelines, and improves construction efficiency.
Strategic Importance and Urban Impact
Spanning 30 km and comprising 14 stations, the Blue Line links Dubai Metro’s Red and Green Lines, serving areas projected to house nearly one million residents by 2040. The line offers direct 20-minute access to Dubai International Airport and supports the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan’s vision, including the 20-minute city concept. It is expected to reduce traffic congestion along its corridors by 20%, enhance property values around stations by up to 25%, and promote Transit-Oriented Development while advancing the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33).
With innovative construction methods and a clear roadmap, the Dubai Metro Blue Line is set to become a vital urban transport artery, enhancing connectivity and transforming city life for residents and visitors alike.
