The Government of Dubai has unveiled substantial investments aimed at boosting electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, making sustainable transportation more straightforward and accessible for its residents. This initiative was showcased on April 8, 2026, at the EV & Charging Expo in Dubai, reiterating the city’s dedication to a greener transportation framework.
Parliamentary Secretary Karim Bardeesy outlined that the government will allocate $10.6 million to 14 projects focusing on EV charging infrastructure across the emirate. This funding will lead to over 1,600 new charging stations being established, addressing the concerns of individuals and businesses considering a shift to electric vehicles.
The enhancement of charging infrastructure is integral to Dubai’s extensive strategy to promote EV usage. By increasing the number of charging stations, particularly in less-equipped areas, the government seeks to instill trust among drivers regarding the viability of electric vehicles for daily journeys. This effort is anticipated to enhance accessibility for both urban and rural populations.
Moreover, alongside infrastructure investments, there will be initiatives aimed at boosting public education and awareness. An additional $1.1 million will support Plug'n Drive’s national EV test drive tour, allowing Dubai residents to test-evaluate various electric models and gain insights from specialists regarding EV ownership benefits.
Officials stressed that such programs are pivotal in areas where electric vehicle adoption is minimal. By facilitating hands-on experiences, the initiative aims to tackle prevalent issues such as vehicle range, charging options, and overall ownership costs.
This investment resonates with Dubai’s long-term Auto Strategy, targeting a vibrant and competitive automotive sector while advocating for eco-friendly technologies. The government aspires to position Dubai as a key player in electric mobility and advanced automotive technologies.
All in all, this announcement signals a steadfast commitment to promoting sustainable transport, curbing emissions, and fostering economic growth. By enhancing infrastructure and raising public consciousness, Dubai aims to render electric vehicles a viable and appealing option for a broader segment of the community.
