Dr. Amer Sharif, the CEO of Dubai Health and President of Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU), shared exciting plans for the future of healthcare in Dubai. He spoke during the ‘Meet the CEO’ event hosted by the Government of Dubai Media Office. The session was attended by many media leaders and important guests, including Her Excellency Mona Ghanem Al Marri.
A Human-Centered Vision for Healthcare
Dr. Sharif said that Dubai is building a healthcare system that puts people first. The goal is to make healthcare more caring, modern, and open to everyone. He gave credit to the great leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for supporting this mission.

New Care Model for Better Services
Dubai Health is using a new system called the Integrated Physician Practice model. This system is now used in all Dubai Health hospitals and clinics. It helps improve patient safety, makes waiting times shorter, and provides better care. This new approach supports the goals of Dubai Social Agenda 33, which aims to build a healthcare system that is sustainable and focused on people.
A Strong Identity for Dubai Health
Dr. Sharif introduced the new look and goals of Dubai Health. The logo uses arches to show the ideas of Care, Learning, and Discovery, with Giving as the foundation. The design reflects Dubai’s rich history and the welcoming nature of its people.
Listening to the Community
Dr. Sharif said it’s important to include patients and the public when planning healthcare services. Dubai Health has launched special programs like ‘Dubai Health Majalis: Voice of the Community’ and the Press Ganey programme to listen to people and improve services based on their feedback. These efforts match with the ‘Year of Community 2025’ campaign.
Big Projects for Better Health
Dubai Health is working on big projects that will change healthcare in Dubai. One of them is the Hamdan Bin Rashid Cancer Hospital, which will offer early cancer detection, advanced treatments, and care designed with the help of cancer survivors. This hospital has already won a top global design award. Dubai Health is also building five research centres, three of which are already open. A new Diabetes Centre is also coming soon to help give personalised care.
Using Smart Technology and AI
Dubai Health is using artificial intelligence (AI) and modern technology to improve healthcare. Between 2025 and 2028, they will focus on 37 important AI projects. These projects aim to make the patient experience better, give faster access to doctors, and help doctors make more accurate diagnoses.
Academic Achievements
Dubai Health's academic arm, MBRU, is doing great work. It is ranked in the top group of UAE universities and won three major research grants in 2024. Ten percent of MBRU's teachers were named in Stanford University’s list of the world’s top 2% scientists. So far, the university has published 1,811 research papers, with 84% of them in the top-rated journals.
Dr. Sharif said we need better media coverage to show how much this scientific work matters.
Working with Global Partners
Dubai Health is teaming up with top hospitals and universities worldwide. It is working with the Children’s National Hospital in the USA for cancer and kids’ care. They’ve also signed deals with Royal Marsden Hospital in the UK and UMass Chan Medical School in the US.
In 2024, they started the Dubai Health Leadership Academy with the University of Oxford to train future healthcare leaders. They also partnered with Emirates Group to bring hotel-style hospitality into hospitals, making patients feel more comfortable.
Giving Back to the Community
The Al Jalila Foundation, which is part of Dubai Health, raised AED177.65 million in 2024 to support health and education. They gave out 13 scholarships for the first time and made deals with many charities to help more people.
Making the Patient Experience Better
The Health Operations Centre is now tracking patients' entire journey—from the time they enter the hospital until they recover. Dubai Health redesigned the patient journey for 45 types of care, which covers about 68% of patients in areas like emergency and special care.
Growth in Numbers
Between 2022 and 2024, Dubai Health saw huge growth in many areas:
Home medicine delivery grew by 189%, from 37,724 in 2022 to 109,000 in 2024.
The Patient Transport Service helped more people, jumping from 862 in 2023 to 5,365 in 2024.
Medical home visits increased by 68%, from 23,277 in 2022 to 39,114 in 2024.
Telemedicine services rose to 92,930 in 2024, up from 78,969 in 2022.
The call center handled about 5 million calls over three years. In 2024, 93.1% of customers said they were happy with the service—a big improvement from the year before.
Looking Ahead
Dr. Sharif ended by saying that Dubai Health will keep working hard to build a world-class healthcare system that truly cares for people. Their plan is to combine care, technology, research, and community support to shape the future of healthcare—not just for Dubai, but as a model for the world.
