The Carolina Hurricanes earned a thrilling 4-3 win against the Vancouver Canucks when Sebastian Aho scored with just 31 seconds left in overtime. The game took place in Raleigh, North Carolina, and fans witnessed a dramatic finish as the Hurricanes continued their strong form with another important victory. Aho’s goal was his seventh of the season and also the 17th overtime winner of his career, showing his experience and calmness under pressure.
Andrei Svechnikov played a major role in the Hurricanes’ victory. He scored two goals in the first period, helping Carolina take control of the early part of the game. His second goal came on a power play and showed his strong presence near the net. Svechnikov also added an assist later, making his total contribution three points. His performance gave the Hurricanes confidence and early momentum.
Taylor Hall, celebrating his 34th birthday, scored a very important goal for the Hurricanes in the third period. With his team trailing 3-2, Hall found the net at 6:26 of the final period to tie the game 3-3. The goal was his fourth of the season, and it gave Carolina a fresh chance to push the game into overtime. His timing was perfect, and it kept the Hurricanes alive.
Shayne Gostisbehere played an outstanding support role for Carolina. He finished the night with three assists, including the final pass that helped Aho score the game-winning goal. His vision and smart puck movement helped the Hurricanes keep pressure on Vancouver throughout the night.
The Vancouver Canucks also showed strong moments in the game. Max Sasson opened the scoring just 2:45 into the game, giving Vancouver an early lead. Later, Elias Pettersson scored a short-handed goal after a mistake by a Hurricanes defender. Conor Garland added a power-play goal early in the second period, giving the Canucks a 3-2 lead and putting pressure on Carolina.
Kevin Lankinen, Vancouver’s goaltender, made 34 saves and kept the Canucks in the game multiple times. He stopped three strong Hurricanes chances in overtime before Aho managed to score. Despite the loss, Lankinen’s performance was one of the highlights for Vancouver, especially with his ability to stay calm during heavy pressure.
Carolina suffered a setback when Seth Jarvis, the team’s scoring leader, left the game in the first period due to an upper-body injury. He took a hit from a teammate’s stick near his face and did not return. His absence made the night more challenging, but the Hurricanes managed to overcome it with strong teamwork.
The first 10 minutes of the game saw four goals and a 2-2 tie. Sasson scored first for Vancouver, but Svechnikov responded with two quick goals only 54 seconds apart. Pettersson’s short-handed goal tied the game again, creating a fast and exciting first period for fans of both teams.
The Hurricanes were the more aggressive team throughout the night. They finished regulation with 34 shots compared to Vancouver’s 16. In the second period alone, Carolina had an 18-8 shot advantage. This pressure helped them stay in control even when the Canucks took the lead.
The Hurricanes have now won five of their last six games, showing strong form as the season continues. Meanwhile, the Canucks played the first of three road games in just four nights, and they will be hoping to recover quickly. Both teams had bright moments, but Carolina’s overtime finish proved to be the difference.
